KYL Dancers
The Kun-Yang Lin Dancers Studio is in my neighborhood. When I first moved here I went to some of their performances and to open rehearsals. The people were very nice and when I asked if I might photograph at a rehearsal they said sure.
I think I went to photograph just once. The dancers, their faces, their movements and the space were all good but the bright new yellow floor overwhelmed all my images. I put the images aside.
A few years later I pulled them out and thought to paint out the irritating floor color. That became an interesting task as one long wall was mirrored so the floor in the mirror also needed paint and then there were other elements of a composition that needed editing. The painting took me further than I had expected to go.
Thus a few of the dance photographs were saved. So I made them a book.
