Some Parts I + II
Book I
Book I
The actors pictured in these two books are part of the same group that appear in the Ensemble books. But now they aren’t rehearsing they’re performing various acting exercises. The images in the two books were made in different places and on different days.
Book I was made in a rehearsal/storage space above a theatre. The masks were a surprise to me and very exciting because of the color and the surreal aspect they created. I don’t remember what was happening in the image without a mask in Book I but it is a favorite image of mine because of its architecture and because of its craziness.
In Book II the actors are on the floor, sometimes writing, sometimes doing exercises. The strips of white tape marking the floor created a geometry and a focus for the images.
When I made these photographs I was still using a film camera. But I scanned the images into the computer so that I could do my own color adjusting and printing.
