Proximity

The curator who invited me to show the Proximity photographs told me she liked to arrange events in conjunction with the shows.  I offered to do a poetry reading in the gallery and she agreed.  I had never put my poetry and my visual work together before.  I didn’t want my words to limit what a person might see in my pictures nor did I want my pictures to limit the meaning of my words.  But I thought this pairing might work as the words and pictures were only momentarily joined.

I made a book of the poems and photographic sequences sometime after the exhibit was ended.   The book was intended as a document of that event, that pairing of words and pictures.  I made a second book to document the Proximity sequences that didn’t fit the first book.  It is interesting to me now, looking at these two posts, that the “Not A Book” images are much more dynamic than the quieter images in this post.
