I didn’t used to keep a camera with me at all times. I used the camera for specific projects or when I traveled or was in a museum. But then came Instagram.

At the beginning all the images were square, a lovely shape for a photograph, and somehow a good shape for the things I thought of making photographs of. I don’t like a lot of stuff sitting around so only collect small things. I filled drawers with compositions of various objects. Perfect images for Instagram.

I would go through the house paying attention, opening drawers. Paying attention in this space became habitual. The images of objects and shapes and then of patterns of light piled up. My images were building a story about the space that I live and work in. A story of how the light changes in this interior landscape and how it changes this landscape itself. Interior landscape. Hence Inscapes.

The images initially prompted by Instagram piled up. I printed them. I looked at them for a long time and eventually formed some into sequences. I liked the small size and started making books of them. Initially the books were of two or three images. Sometimes they began as longer sequences but often got edited down. More than once a book had one image. A few times I would make a long sequence that held up over time. Number 32 Black Cabinet has fourteen images.

There are seventy six Inscape books at the moment.

Each of the 72 Inscapes books is unique or made in an edition of 2. 6 x 8 inches or 6.25 x 8 inches. Archival inkjet prints mounted on Stonehenge paper with museum board ends and Arches jacket. 2019-2026.
